Fitted furniture in Runcorn
Most Alcove Cabinetry enquiries we take in Runcorn start with an opening that is not a standard size. Local property is overwhelmingly black-and-white revival frontages, Georgian market towns and large modern detached stock, which is why we never quote from a catalogue. moderate rainfall with damp Mersey basin air is the local complication, and joint opening and glazing failure on large-format modern units is what it eventually causes. The part that matters is scribing to alcoves that are never the same width top and bottom.
The site visit comes first, because assumptions made in an office get paid for on site. Rough dimensions and a couple of photographs are enough for us to price it properly.
One thing that catches people out here: high-value Cheshire stock frequently specifies engineered hardwood as standard.

Which is the entire reason built-in furniture costs more than flat-pack, and the entire reason it looks better.
We scribe to the wall
Every panel is cut to the actual line of the plaster, so there is no tapering gap running down the side of the unit.
We measure at three heights
Alcoves are routinely 20 to 40mm wider at the bottom than the top. One measurement is how you end up packing the gap out.
We finish off site
Sprayed under workshop conditions, which is a level of finish site application simply cannot reach.
What clients tell us
Feedback collected directly from completed projects. Full written references are available on request before you commit.
“The alcoves were nearly 40mm out top to bottom and you genuinely cannot tell.”
Verified client, Cheshire“Finish is better than anything we have had sprayed on site, and it has stayed that way.”
Verified client, Cheshire“They redesigned the internal layout after asking how we actually store things.”

What if the opening is out of square?
Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.
Do you take a deposit?
Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
How long does a typical order take?
Most made-to-size orders run six to ten weeks from survey to delivery. Conservation and heavily detailed work can take longer, and we confirm the lead time in writing at quotation rather than leaving it open.
Can you work on a listed building?
Yes, and a significant share of our work is listed or conservation area. We can supply drawings and section details to support a listed building consent or planning application, though the consent itself remains the owner's responsibility.
Do you work in hardwood or softwood?
Both. Engineered hardwood is the default where movement or exposure is a concern, and slow-grown softwood is often the better value choice for painted work in sheltered positions. We will tell you which we would specify and why.
