Fitted furniture in Crook

There is no standard version of Timber Wall Panelling in Crook, which is rather the point. With colliery terraces, Georgian Durham city stock and Pennine stone housing making up much of the area, off-the-shelf sizes rarely line up. Because of cold upland winters with heavy rainfall, we see frost and saturation damage on unmaintained painted softwood more often here than in most of the country. Where we put the effort is setting out so panel lines relate to the doors and windows.

Every job is measured on site first, because drawn sizes and built sizes are seldom the same. Send what you have, even if it is only a phone photo, and we will take it from there.

Worth knowing locally: Durham's cathedral setting carries World Heritage-level design scrutiny.

What we cover locally

Survey visits in Crook are usually booked within a week. There is no charge for the survey and no obligation to proceed.

Nothing in your house is square in Crook

Which is the entire reason built-in furniture costs more than flat-pack, and the entire reason it looks better.

01

We scribe to the wall

Every panel is cut to the actual line of the plaster, so there is no tapering gap running down the side of the unit.

02

We measure at three heights

Alcoves are routinely 20 to 40mm wider at the bottom than the top. One measurement is how you end up packing the gap out.

03

We finish off site

Sprayed under workshop conditions, which is a level of finish site application simply cannot reach.

Crook questions

What guarantee do you provide?

Ten years on workmanship, covering manufacture and the factory-applied finish. Where we install, the installation is covered too. It is issued in writing with the handover paperwork.

Can you match an existing profile?

Yes. If you can supply a section, a photograph with a rule in shot, or an old unit, we can replicate the profile. For conservation work this is usually the condition the planning officer will apply.

What if the opening is out of square?

Most older openings are. The survey records the actual dimensions at several points and the unit is manufactured to suit, which is the main reason we survey rather than work from the sizes given over the phone.

Will the finish need maintaining?

A factory-applied microporous finish typically needs inspection every three to five years, sooner on exposed coastal elevations. Maintaining it is far cheaper than letting a coating fail and the timber take up water.

Do you take a deposit?

Not before the measured survey. A deposit is only requested once the survey is complete and you have approved the final schedule and price.
